Many families are affected in some way by breast cancer during their life. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, we are taking a moment to do what we can to help: we have started a team to walk in the upcoming Making Strides Breast Cancer walk in October.
"We decided to participate in Making Strides to give back to our community," said Property Manager Brittney Calderon. "We are all affected by cancer in some way or another and we see firsthand residents fighting this dreaded disease…this is just a small way to say that we are joining the fight…it's a great way to get together with coworkers, family, friends, and neighbors and unite together."
And we need your help: whether you join in on donation day, walk to show your support or donate on your own, you are making a difference.
Donation Day at Shake Shack
The Shake Shack, right here in Vernon Hills, is holding a fundraiser on October 2 to benefit the cause.
Part of the Shake Shack’s mission is to “stand for something good” and they are helping a wonderful event with this fundraiser.
If you present the fundraiser flyer at the register when you are checking out they will donate 25% of the total meal to Making Strides Breast Cancer Research.
Come out and enjoy a flat-top dog, crinkle fries, a tasty burger or chicken and a little frozen custard for dessert and your meal will help those undergoing breast cancer treatment.
Breast Cancer Walk
We are happy to announce this year you can join Team Atworth in the Making Strides of Lake County walk on October 13th, 2019.
The event will start at 7:30 a.m., opening ceremony is at 8:30 a.m., and the walk itself starts at 9:00am. The walk is a 2.5 mile non-competitive walk in Libertyville, Illinois and will happen rain or shine. No pets, bikes or rollerblades are permitted at the walk but it is a family-friendly event so bring out the kids.
The American Cancer Society started the Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk, which is now one of the largest networks of breast cancer events in the nation.
This walk is to show support for all those who have fought or are fighting breast cancer. The funds from the walk will help with groundbreaking research for breast cancer treatment and prevention, help to provide free rides and places to stay during a patient’s cancer treatment, and also fund a 24/7 cancer help line.
If you are unable to attend either event but would still like to help out, you can donate here.
Helping our Neighbors at The Atworth
We are happy to have such a supportive community here in Vernon Hills, especially within the Mellody Farm family.
"One of Regency Centers' core values is connecting with our community," said Stephanie Parisi, property manager at Regency Centers. "It's great to see our merchants and the residential component working together to support similar causes to those of their own corporate offices. We are excited for the community to have a place to come together and make impactful philanthropic changes."
The Atworth looks to go above and beyond to build on community and this is another wonderful community event we are proud to be a part of.
