Play longer. Live stronger. These powerful phrases are at the foundation of operations at the Vernon Hills Park District, which features more than 400 acres of parkland and waters throughout the Village.
Established more than 40 years ago by Delores C. Sullivan, The Vernon Hills Park District has blossomed into a beautiful backdrop for leisurely walks, and a loving home for competitive sports leagues and festivals.
Vernon Hills has so much to offer its residents to begin with, including premier shopping, one-of-a-kind restaurants and beautiful new luxury apartment communities like The Atworth at Mellody Farm. And after what has been among the most confusing spring seasons weather-wise, the time is now to get outside and explore the village and all it offers.
Here are some features offered by the Vernon Hills Park District you can’t miss this summer:
Splish and Splash at the Family Aquatic Center
Relax and catch some sun at the Family Aquatic Center, where you can enjoy a zero-depth leisure pool with 6 lap lanes, zero-depth pool with water falls, sprays & jets, 700-foot lazy river, body & inner tube slides, fully enclosed body flume, sand play area, shade umbrellas, lounge chairs, lockers, and concessions by Bo-Bo’s Poolside.
Hours vary based on the day of the week and time in the season, and season passes are available online, or in-person at the Sullivan, Lakeview Fitness or Family Aquatic Centers.
Push The Limits at Lakeview Fitness
The Lakeview Fitness neighborhood fitness center offers outstanding value, friendly staff, professional trainers and compassionate instructors to help you achieve your goals to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The state-of-the art fitness center is equipped with up-to-date cardio and weight training machines and equipment, challenging group exercise classes, and an indoor pool for lap swim, aquatic classes, and a water play structure for family open swim.
The spa includes a sauna, steam room, and whirlpool and personal training is also available.
Shop Local at the Farmer’s Market
Local vendors will display their goods weekly on Thursdays, June 6 through August 29 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the south end of Century Park.
Participating vendors and producers include Elsie Mae’s Canning & Pies, Hasselmanns Family Farm, Carly’s Confections, and many more.
Explore the Vernon Hills Park District Park System
With more than two dozen parks to choose from in the system, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
There are three parks in the Mellody Farm neighborhood, including Century Park Arboretum. In addition to being home to the weekly Farmer’s Market, this magnificent park is the district’s largest.
Boasting 113 acres of land and water, Century Park features two lakes, 2.7 miles of walking/bike paths, a boat launch, Pavillion Room for gatherings, baseball fields, basketball and volleyball courts, and more.
Century Park surrounds New Century Town subdivisions along Big & Little Bear Lakes. Although there are several entrances to the park, most of the park can be accessed right off of Lakeview Parkway, north of Route 60.
Enjoy Everything in Balance at The Atworth at Mellody Farm

Nestled within the new Mellody Farm development, The Atworth offers convenience to the utmost. Not only are there walkable food and retail options right there, but our adventurous residents enjoy heading over to MacArthur Preserve to check out the spectacular hiking trails.
